Using Brother DCP-7065DN on Linux Mint

Today I needed to scan some documents but didn’t want to move to the office.

So I picket Brothers 64Bit deb drivers and installed them via command line, like described on the download page.

Just in case you missed those (like me the first time) I quoted todays version for you.

  • Download the driver.
  • Login as a superuser (or use “sudo” option if required) .
  • Check if pre-required procedures are completed
    For Debian, Ubuntu
  • Install the driver.
    1. Turn on your MFC/DCP and connect the USB cable.
    2. Open the terminal and go to the directory where the driver is.
    3. Install the scanner driver.
      Command (for dpkg) : dpkg -i –force-all  (scanner-drivername)
    4. Check if the driver is installed.
Command (for dpkg) : dpkg -l | grep Brother
  • Use your scanning application by a superuser and try a test scan.

After installation the scanner was not accessible via network.

I found the missing step in the ubuntu forums.
For me this commandline worked:

sudo brsaneconfig4 -a name=DCP-7065DN -model=DCP-7065DN ip=192.168.x.x

If you copy this take care to pick the right ip-adress of your printer.
Name and model can vary to your needs.
